Michael Vaughan gave Geoffrey Boycott a straightforward challenge when he asked him to name his favourite modern-day cricketer. The options were some of the biggest names in the game: Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root, the iconic quartet famously known as the ‘Fab Four’.
However, Boycott went in a completely different direction altogether.
The former England captain picked India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, a choice that may have surprised Vaughan at first but soon it made sense when explained. For Boycott, the 37-year-old from India is the epitome of a perfect all-rounder.
“Jadeja? Oh, I love Jadeja as well. He bowls beautifully, his fielding is electric, and he can bat too. He gets his head down and can bat properly. And he’s a handsome so-and-so,” Boycott said on the Stick to Cricket podcast.
Boycott also revealed that he had recently met Jadeja during a visit to India.
“I met him for the first time recently when I went to India, was it last year? I remember just watching him and thinking, definitely, I love him. He’s very handsome, isn’t he? A nice lad, yeah, and just a good cricketer, isn’t he? A proper all-round cricketer,” Boycott added.
Jadeja certainly backed up that assessment during India’s 2025 Test tour of England. He scored 517 runs, including five consecutive half-centuries, and played a crucial role, as India drew the five-match series. His quality and experience were visible throughout.
Jadeja is currently the No. 1 Test allrounder in the world as per the ICC rankings.
