Badrinath Breaks Silence on Dhoni’s CSK Future: “He Sees Himself as Full-Time Keeper”

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Subramaniam Badrinath has revealed that MS Dhoni does not want to be used as an Impact Player, as the veteran cricketer sees himself as a full-time wicketkeeper.

With questions continuing to surround Dhoni’s future with CSK in the IPL, Badrinath has shared details of his conversation with the former India skipper.

“He has personally told me that he won’t play as an Impact Player,” Badrinath said on his YouTube channel. “He sees himself as a full-time wicketkeeper, and that means he has to be on the field for the full 20 overs. So he won’t play as an Impact Player, but I feel if he does, it’ll tactically benefit CSK.”

Badrinath believes Dhoni could benefit CSK more by being used as an Impact Player, particularly considering his fitness concerns and the demands of playing at his age.

“His body cannot withstand long durations, which even Fleming has said. He is only going to bat after the 16th over and keep wickets. When his participation is so limited, he would be ideal as an Impact Player,” Badrinath added.

Dhoni missed the entire 2026 IPL season after suffering a calf muscle injury but remains a very important part of CSK’s squad. The 45-year-old is yet to decide whether he will continue his playing career.
