Blue Jays Place Alejandro Kirk on IL, Recall Brandon Valenzuela

The Toronto Blue Jays placed catcher Alejandro Kirk on the 10‑day injured list after a dislocated and fractured left thumb. They recalled Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo to fill the vacancy.

Alejandro Kirk, the Blue Jays’ two‑time All‑Star catcher, was placed on the 10‑day injured list on Saturday after a dislocated and fractured left thumb sustained in the 10th inning of a 5‑4 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The injury was caused when a foul ball struck his glove, and X‑rays confirmed the damage.

To replace Kirk, the club recalled Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo. The 25‑year‑old, who has yet to appear in a major‑league game, will split time behind the plate with Tyler Heineman while Kirk recovers. The Jays also assigned veteran left‑hander Patrick Corbin to Single‑A Dunedin after signing him to a one‑year deal.
