Storm Dave halts Durham v Kent County Championship match

Storm Dave damaged Banks Home Riverside, halting the day‑three County Championship clash between Durham and Kent. The pitch was too damp for play after heavy rain and wind.

Storm Dave brought gale‑force winds, rain and snow to the Chester‑le‑Streets ground, blowing off pitch covers and flooding the wicket. The ground staff began a clean‑up, but umpires deemed one end too damp for play.

Durham had been leading 221 runs after the first innings and were set to continue after a 3.40 pm inspection. The match was abandoned, and the ground reopened to spectators at lunchtime, but no play could resume.
