Published September 28, 2026 · Updated September 29, 2026 · Fox Sports

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane confirmed that the team's playoff berth will be a factor in determining manager Joe Espada's future, whose contract expires after the season.

Crane stated there have been no recent discussions about a new deal for Espada, but noted "All positives are positives" regarding their postseason achievement. The Astros became the first MLB team to make the playoffs without a winning record, finishing 81-81 to secure the AL West title. newsbetting.bond

The team will host the Chicago White Sox in a Wild Card Series beginning Tuesday. This marks the Astros' ninth playoff appearance in ten years, reaching the ALCS seven times during that span and winning World Series championships in 2017 and 2022.
