Andrea Pavan discharged after elevator shaft fall

Italian golfer Andrea Pavan has been discharged from a South African hospital after falling three stories in an elevator shaft. He will continue rehabilitation in South Africa for about five weeks before returning to the U.S.

Pavan, 36, fell into an elevator shaft at a hotel in Stellenbosch while preparing for the DP World Tour’s Investec South African Open. He suffered fractures to several vertebrae and shoulder injuries, requiring multiple surgeries.

He was discharged on Wednesday and will stay in South Africa for roughly five weeks of rehabilitation before heading home. A GoFundMe set up by a former teammate has raised over $81,000 to support his recovery.
